Anti-DEI Gone Overboard - Course Corrections.

Hegseth is an idiot.

“It was just the prelude… Where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people too.”

Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)

One of the hallmarks of a professional military is a well educated officer corp - both liberally and professionally. Same goes for the NCO corp but it tends to be more technical.

Removing books is not the answer. Education of your officers - future and current - is the solution.

In my mind, it's got zero to do with DEI. it's history.
Racial prejudice reared it's ugly head at the time and got handily beaten down.

Fun fact: Coleman 'Hizzoner' Young, ex mayor of Detroit, was a Red Tail.

Just when things were naturally turning around from the excesses of identitarian politics, the Trump Administration comes and bigfoots everything. This wool certainly cause a resurgence in “wokeness” just as it was dying naturally.

These dysfunctional, often abusive forms of progressivism and DEI have also received considerable pushback in recent years. Now, the Trump administration’s toxic anti-wokeness—and its combination of zealotry, bullying, and bumbling incompetence—is likely not only to harm the institutions it targets but to make it harder to criticize toxic DEI. In the past decade, progressives alienated a lot of moderates with hypersensitive speech policing and self-righteous witch-hunts. Now, the shoe is on the other foot, and the anti-DEI police are the baddies—and defenders of true liberalism and free speech need to focus most of their effort on curbing the empowered authoritarian right.

Yascha Mounk is concerned that in reaction to the Trump Administration’s illiberalism, the Dems will double down on their identitarian illiberalism.
