Friend of mine got sent to Winnipeg as a driver, she resides in Quebec though, she hates it in Winnipeg and is stuck there 4 years...

Is there any way for her to get transferred back to Quebec or somewhere closer?

She just got posted there?  How long has she been there?  Sounds like all the guys who got posted to Germany and didn't like it and wanted to get posted back to Canada after one month.

I take it she is a Francophone and has a hard time speaking to the Francophones in Manitoba.  She joined the CF and as such must accept that she is no longer living at home, but where the CF needs her.

I would hazard a guess that she is going to stay there for her four years.  It is expensive to move people.  Most of the Quebecers I have met who have been posted outside of Quebec find that Canada is not the same as what they were taught in school and often don't want to return to Quebec.  Many find new homes in places like Comox, Calgary, Kingston, and even Winnipeg.

Chances are she is out of luck, but she can try writing a memo asking for a change of posting but she will need to have good reasons as the career managers only have so much money allotted to them for postings.  So she will probably have to do her 4 years then if she is lucky will be able to get posted to Quebec.

Winnipeg is not to bad I spent 10 years there, you just got to get used to the mosquitoes in the summer and the wind chill in the winter. ;D

Honestly, that's what I think, but she's been there a while now (like 3 months or so)... I fell in love with Kingston the first week lol

She has a couple of french friends, and is bilingual, she just didn't ask for Winnipeg at all and got posted there.

Guess it's part of the ricks of being a log eh.

She could have gotten posted to Shilo or Wainwright; or smaller bases like Dundurn, Meaford or Yellowknife.  ;D

Tell her to get out more, especially into the St. Boniface area, maybe St. Pierre, St. Malo (excellent beach)....some of the homesickness will go away if she starts interacting with the french community here....ps: it's the largest french community outside of Quebec (I think)

I would have thought Ottawa to be the next largest outside of Qc.

It is indeed the second largest French community West of Quebec.

I Agree, glad to leave on the West Coast !

I remember telling my career manager that I didn't want to go to Victoria (I wanted Halifax for some very good reasons).  He said you're going to Victoria.  I said, "you don't understand.  I REALLY should go to Halifax!"  He then offered me Dundurn, SK.  I said that Victoria sounded wonderful! ;D

Funny how when I wanted to go to Victoria, no such luck...when I really wanted to go to Trenton or Kingston, I get told, nope, you're going to Victoria.  And career managers wonder why the world hates them...must...bite...tongue...rant...coming...on...

Just so it's not all doom and gloom in this thread, sometimes things can work out.

I wanted to go to Ottawa for a couple years (For the GF's schooling), the CM stated "Oh but we were planning on keeping you here for a year…" and then a couple weeks later, I got my posting message, for Ottawa. Fast forward two years, and I'm getting posted back to the west coast, just as I would have liked.

It really just depends upon what holes the CM has to fill with what pegs. And I suppose whether or not the move budget has been expended or not.

For both of the preceding situations, this is clearly a case of the fact that "all roads lead to Ottawa" lol

Really?  They seem to have loads of money stored away for my specific use then as I seem to get posted every 2 to 3 yrs like clockwork, even when I don't want to go!
