I've heard that the soles freeze and that makes you fall when you get on ice. Is there anything you can put on your insole that'll give it some traction on the ice so that they're wearable in winter? I saw a topic about 2 pieces of winter kit, one was a jacket, the other was something else that you can put over the boots, but when I searched for the thread I couldnt find it.

I believe this may be the thread you were thinking of: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/36443.0.html

To make them safe on ice
1. Leave them at home, or return them to the QM
2. Put some really little screws in them, two at the front, two half way up the sole, and two in the heel.  About 1/8 inch screws, caferful of the goretex though
3. Get YakTrax, they work, and are tough
4. Seriously, don;t wear them cause you will fall, hard.

I can't beleive that after all the testing and evaluations they did on these boots, that this is basicaly a useless piece of equipment. Too warm in the summer and DANGEROUS to wear on wet surface. Let alone on ice or hard pack snow.

I read somewhere that they are develloping new sole, that are less slippery. Hope they get it right this time...

there was rubber treads that were available at the time the contract was signed
but... t'was a matter of the allmighty coin!
The rubber treads our procurment people selected was "as good as" the other stuff (NOT!!!)
Some people have gons so far as to have their WWB soles ground down and replaced... but that would be illegal...

OK
