I've used them for years but have no idea how to buy one. It's for novice users in an very isolated area so nothing fancy. I was thinking of a Lifepak but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Contact your local St. John Ambulance office. Ask for a quote on an AED. They should be priced quite reasonable compared to other places. I believe they now are selling a Phillips unit.

What kind of group is this for ?

Before you go buying a machine online out of pocket, investigate grants available.  There are Provincial and federal groups and charities whose sole purpose is to fund (usually 50:50) the purchase and implementation of these life saving machines.

Any schmoe can sell you a tool, but how nice would it be to get two of them for a quarter of the price and have ongoing support.

Just something to think about
