I have a wife and I will be travelling solo to Borden for QL3 training as per my entry plan. But will receive a seperation allowance while training.

In December when I'm finished, my posting will be decided. My question is ... Does having a wife back home

help in the odds of getting a post closer to home? probably doesn't matter to who ever makes the decision but

thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks anyone who helps,

Mike

My experience, especially in the medical branch, is they send you where they feel like.  Depending on where home is, it`s a possibility.  During your 3`s, they`ll give you a chance to pick some positng preferences - ask for what you`d like, but it`s still a bit of a crap shoot, as needs of the service come first, and since the Field Ambs are getting slammed, my guess is pick a number between 1 and 5, leaving out 3 and 4.  Good luck to you.

Addendum - noticed you`re hoping for Gagetown - if you ask real nice, you just might get it actually.  We don`t have a field amb here incidentally.

There are a few nurses here.  I`m not sure if they`re looking for any extra yet or not though.

If you want to do Aeromed...which wing would you find that?
Or be part of DART?

HL

All of DARTs kit (to my knowledge) is at 8 Wing...with the HQ in Kingston I believe...

;D

How would you know MudMan...lol and don't say the internet...I wanna here an actual account  :)

HL

As far as I know the majority of the kit is held in Trenton, but majority of personnel assigned to DART (med at least) are in Petawawa Ont.  Armymedic can give you more details on it.  There are a few positions at other base but most of these are only secondary calls if someone can't go.  We had a Doctor from Gagetown go to Parkistan with the dart.

Thanks Kirsten...
I have a lot to learn before and while I get going.

I am not sure if you consider this credible info...however...

It's not usually a huge consideration Medic. If I was a betting man I'd say they need you in one of the Field Amb units right now so you can deploy to Afghanistan when you're trained....that would be Petawawa, Edmonton or Valcartier (if you have french). On completion of your course your imposed restriction (on moving) will be lifted and you can move your wife with you to your new posting. This will be done at Government expense
If you joined thinking you won't have to move and she isn't willing to move....you joined the wrong outfit.

HL - The HQ for the DART is in Kingston.  The stores are held in Trenton.  The medical component was originally supposed to be a rotation of the field ambs and the security and engineer components are based on a rotational basis as well.  Often the medical component will have a platoon from (more often than not) 2 Field Amb with augmentation from other bases as required.  We lost 2 people to the DART for Central America and Turkey twice in the same year from Kingston.  Most Medevacs are done from 8 Wing, though teams from any of the wings can get sent on missions.
