Hi all, I applied for my canadian citizenship a month ago. I ve been in Canada for almost 5 years and I m keen on joining the Canadian forces. My question is, am I qualified to apply to the Canadian forces, since I ve already applied for citizenship and meet all the requirements for it. I m a  student currently studying law. Cheers. :)

The answer you receive the first time, in 2005, is still valid.

Non Citizens ( Permanent Residents) in canadian forces!

as a search with the word "citizenship" would have show.

FIRST OFF - Do you meet the 3 CRITERIA ?

FIRST OFF - Do you meet the 3 CRITERIA to join the Canadian Forces?

First:  Are you a Canadian Citizen?

You MUST be a Canadian Citizen.

If you are not, then you must attain your Canadian Citizenship first.

Don't forget to search and read...

I guess I should have clarified. To rephrase the question, since average processing times for the citizenship are 8 - 12 months and abt the more or less for Canadian forces application, would my application be given the go- ahead to be processed and employment be offered once citizenship is assumed?

That might depend on your background in regards to a secuirty check from records from your old country, and if your old homeland is willing to cooperate. I would assume there is a security check of some kind when you apply to become a citizen. I hope there is anyways.

It took from March until November 2006 to get my SECRET clearance, and I have been in Australia over 13 yrs, and a Defence Force Member for the same time.

Good luck!

PS  - You might want to edit your post - the first C in the word Canadian is capitalised.

when i applied for citizenship back in 2004 the army wrote the letter for me stating that i am an applicant and need the citizenship.  the letter actually made me do my citizenship ceremony 3 weeks after my application, rather than wait 8 months.  something to try.  talk to your recruiter about this. worked for me.

No. Citizen first.
