I promise I’m not rabbit-holing the current Hanta virus outbreak in the South Atlantic; this story out of the UK is just wild and worth a share.

In sum, a former passenger on the infected cruise ship has taken ill with consistent symptoms on the remote island of Tristan de Cunha; generally accessible only by boat. The British Army has parachuted in six pathfinders, plus an army critical care nurse and a critical care doctor strapped to them in tandem. They’ve also airdropped critical medical supplies.

Pretty amazing forward deployment of medical resources to a very remote and austere environment. Presumably the Brits are probably worried about the possibility of further spread there on the island- home hundreds residents. Probably quite the little contingency op being mobilized to move more resources there in case there’s a need to MEDEVAC, and in any case to get their troops back.

They clearly don't want to take too many chances deploying the Parachute Regiment too close to civilization ;)
