Hey Just wanted To ask A few Questions From and perhaps get some peoples personal experiences. So Im waiting On my reserve entry For army infantry. I was hoping to go full-time in the first place. But seeing to as how that is not possibly from last year to perhaps next. I was offered a job in the reserves. Now I would Like to join full time and Im on a mission to join. Dont mind waiting But I also Think about reality and bills to pay. So getting down to the dirt I was wondering if anyone else on here has been in this situation
and did they go into a contract job such as the navy or air force in order to get in faster then what they really wanted. I was told Next April for full time in the infantry. But last time they told me this the spots where taken by the west side of Canada within the same day as they where opened.
So It's almost been 2 years and I cannot keep waiting I know joining the reserves will help me get my solider number and perhaps bump me past the civilians since I would have the bmq. So Is it really worth joining another trade? I know life isnt always fare But It can be what u make of it and Im trying to not get stuck in a contract that I dont feel Im making the most of.

im not sure i have any advice, but im definatley in the same boat. ive been waiting to get into fulltime infantry since september 2008 and i accepted a contract for avs tech in the airforce. i start b.m.q in november with the hopes of remustering once i get in. hopefully that will be faster.

Don't count on it.  If your trade is red (meaning low numbers) and/or there are no infantry positions, it could still be a long wait.  Also, you usually need to be at least QL5 qualified before you can remuster.

I'm pretty sure it's been said more than once here:  Don't take a trade you won't be happy with just to get in.

Please use proper spelling, capitalization, etc.  This site has a wonderful spell check function.

I thought you were waiting for 3 months?

Also, take a look at the Rules and Regs you agreed to when you signed up for the site -

I've had to deal with too many unhappy sailors who were in occupations they hated, but accepted in order to get in faster.  Waiting for what you do want is a lot less painful than working in a field you're not interested in.  Notwithstanding that remustering is a numbers game (your current occupation must be healthy enough to let you go and you're proposed occupation must have space to let you in), consider also that the remustering process will also put your career to that point on display.  If you're not doing well in your current occupation (which is difficult if you're not enjoying it), you're proposed new occupation will not likely look upon you too favourably (no one wants to pick up somebody else's deadwood).

In short, never accept an offer for an occupation you don't really want.

We understand what you are saying for the most part but this web site has standards that all users agree to when they apply for a membership. The use of proper grammar enables everyone to read what you are saying without any ambiguity or misunderstanding. Should you embark with a military career you will find the CF standards higher then they are here. If you are this thin skinned from something as minor as this, then maybe you may want to think your career choices.

It was passed down at the Infantry School parade that we as a CF are 2000 infanteers (031) overstrength. Food for thought.

CDN Aviator's prediction :

You will be out 3 years after joining because you are stuck in a trade you don't like and it is closed for remuster "out".

You read ti here first.......

I spoke to Several  veterans today about this dilemma. What I received was virtually the same response which was wait on it. If I was to be stuck somewhere I didn't want to be locked in a  contract, it could make my future with the CF seem Bleak.  I surely Do not Want this and wish to have a long and prosperous Carrier with them.

Thanks for the Advice And from What I have read is it correct that there was indeed (031) overstaffed Infantry Positions.

You're capitalizing WAY TOO MUCH!

Now if that bothers you, you won't join the military because, unlike some jobs like flippin' burgers, we actually want people who know how to effectively communicate both verbally and in WRITTEN form.

Locking this one up for wasted bandwidth. PM him if you have further info.
