Arrests at anti-Israel/Anti-NATO protest in Montreal

Anti-NATO? Anti-American? No mention of the adversaries of the day? Sounds vaguely familiar ....
... with this 1980's homage to the whole "disarm one side, but not necessarily the other" gang :)

There’s always some folks keen to come out for what they see as a good time, and aren’t too picky about underlying cause. I do think the overlap of pro-Palestinian / anti-imperialism / anti-militarism will probably have some staying power for the foreseeable future.

I mean, it’s no secret that the “peace movement” and “nuclear disarmament movement” of the 80’s was funded and supported by the Soviets. What we’re seeing is the Russians and Iranians getting the band back together again.
Yes… Probably to an extent. But protests are also pretty cheap in major urban centers where the motivated people are already present. I don’t doubt that there’s some malign foreign influence, but I think it’s largely influencing stuff that’s already there, and may be pretty hands off. Interestingly though, that’s the sort of stuff that could be captured by the new foreign influence offences were it able to be proven.

Overall I wouldn’t oversell the foreign role, but I’d not be surprised if it exists at least a bit.

I am totally guessing here but I think these "movements" and protest are mostly organic and will happen on their own. However if our adversarial nations and organizations see an opportunity to pour some gas on the fire, I think they would.

I have seen a lot written about Iranian, or suspected Iranian, funding of the Team Hamas protests mostly because of Iranian state links to groups here and the professional nature of their signage and organization. And at least one group in Victoria was paying protesters hundreds of dollars to show up. This has all been reported on in the MSM.

Agreed.

And anyone lighting anything on fire during a "protest" needs to be hit with water cannon and arrested forthwith.

Well this is interesting. Said protestor leading the chant about the 'final solution 2.0 (allegedly) own a Second Cup kiosk . . . in a Jewish hospital .

Well isn't that an interesting development. Serves them right and I hope the name of said arsehole is very public along with his/her picture.

Fair bit of literature out there about the West's disarmament movement getting a fair bit of Soviet "gas" in its heyday - financial, HR and venues to "internationalize" the narrative while still keeping USSR 1.0 out of the "they should take theirs apart" narrative. More on that here (usual Wikipedia caveats apply).
