Hello,
In September 2009 I expressed interest in joining the Canadian Forces, particularly the combat arms trades, as an officer. This was my second attempt, as in May 2005 I had tried but was rejected due to my eyesight, which is now laser corrected.
Unfortunately, the trades were closed at that time, and I was told to come back in late
March/early April 2010 to see if anything had opened up. In the mean time I completed all necessary paperwork. When I returned in March things were still closed, I was told to submit my paperwork and wait for a call. The call eventually did come April 26, and I was scheduled for a medical/interview on May 11, 2010. However on May 10 I received another call saying that the trades had now closed, and with it, processing of candidates.
The force member was pretty apologetic and mentioned that the recruiting offices, particularly in Western Canada had missed the jump on recruiting when the trades had opened, and therefore, despite having already submitted my paperwork a few weeks prior, I had missed the boat when spaces opened.
He told me however, that he would keep my file open, and I could potentially receive another call in November 2010. I'm wondering if anyone could comment on the chances of combat arms trades being reopened next quarter, and if anyone has a similar recruiting story or advice on how to minimize the chance of missing the next intake?
Thanks for your time,
BMT
