Australia's Antarctic claim 'at risk'

SYDNEY — Australia holds the largest claim to Antarctica but risks losing it in any race to unlock the frozen continent's potentially vast mineral and energy resources, an influential thinktank said Monday.

Isn't there an Antarctic Treaty signed by all those countries prohibiting mining?  And if I remember correctly, there are a few countries that have reserved their right to make a territorial claim, but none have done so yet?
 
Doesn't really matter who 'owns' the land it is who is providing the financing  .... mining is decidedly non instant gratification
