Years ago, they did actually publish guidelines with respect to belts. It came out as a message and was at a time when the issued belt was actually black leather. The rules then were that nylon/cotton web belts were OK. but the buckles should either be plain of from Canadian units with which you had served, preferably the current one. The biga$$ American buckles that you got from American sailors by plying them with rum, were considered bad form - didn't stop the submariners from wearing "boomer*" buckles though.
At CFSAL in the 90s they tried to insist on plain or Log buckles, but tolerated Canadian unit buckles. I have never worn a Log buckle. I have a collection of ship and other naval unit buckles (all units with which I have served) that I rotate through.
