Hi all,

I am getting the swearing in ceremony in SK soon.
I am just wondering that how much my unit pay for my travel allowance?
I will drive to my unit 160 km in one way.

Thanks.

First, you have to write a memo requesting travel assistance.

Rates are the low rates:

http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/index.php?lang=eng&svid=6-3

So basically you have to cover the first 16km each way.  So in your case,

160 x 2 = 320
320 - 32 = 298
288 km x $ 0.15 = $43.20

You'll submit this monthly.  I'd throw in the form, but I don't know how to put in an attachment.  PM me with your email and I can send it to you when you need it.

They still use low-rate in the PRes?

Can you imagine the cost of this member if it was high rate? He's already pretty close to getting an extra half day pay every time he comes in.

I don't have the regulations in front of me but off the top of my head I seem to recall that this allowance has a cap of 80km in each direction.

With all the budget restraints, freezes on hirings, etc. are the Reserves looking at this as an area to reduce spending? Could they look at their list of applicants, and all other factors being more or less equal, hire applicants who are in the geographical location?

You'd have to wonder, but I don't know that it impacts too many units that much.  I wondered how the situation was going to work when I moved to Nova Scotia - I live 108 km from Halifax Armoury and transferred to the PLF - I happen to live just down the street (not literally, but close) to the 1st Bn Nova Scotia Highlanders, but my day job often has bme in Halifax too late to make it back to Truro in time for parades... so I'm broadly speaking more effective being PLF vice 1NSH even though it costs a little extra for Comm Assist.
