Bariatric emergencies

That they are...because of the difficulty transporting them emergently. If they're in need of ALS care or greater, an ALS paramedic or critical care RT goes as medical escort.

Does the City of Winnipeg Paramedic Service operate bariatric ambulances?

Without lights and sirens, and not being part of the 9-1-1 system, the private pink "Technical Transport" vehicle would be OK for non-emergency transfers.

Flashback of memories of bariatrics collapsed in the basement washroom of bars and restaurants.

Why are so many Toronto restaurant toilets in dingy basements?
Many bathrooms in Toronto establishments are tucked underground, hindering accessibility

The Toronto Paramedic Bariatric ambulance looks sort of familiar.

Eat less, move more people.

That's great advice .

Until then , targeted ambulance Response Time in our town for CTAS 1 (Resuscitation / Life-Threatening) 9-1-1 calls is within 8 minutes .

How long should a CTAS 1 patient wait for a bariatric ambulance?

If they care so little for their own health why should we ?

Maybe helping others is important to readers. Maybe it's not. That's for them to decide.

Is obesity considered a Disability?

If so, it may be a Human Rights issue for the City.

Not a lawyer . Just an uneducated guess.

Whatever anyone's personal opinion , then or now, the calls got done. All the calls.

For purely selfish reasons, I cared about myself . Like avoiding a career ending - life altering back injury from a bad lift.

Those new bariatric units would have made our job easier.

X times the standard deviation for response times, where X is the ratio of patient’s weight to the mean weight of TEMS ambulance patients in recent years.

That's brilliant.

Haven't done a lift myself in a long time. But, back in 2016, the correct answer was,

the average response time for a bariatric call is about one hour.

Perhaps with these two new units they can do better than that.

And that's in a large city. I couldn't find any information on the level of bariatric services from the other 55 land ambulance services in Ontario, but suspect it is very, very low. Several private patient transfer services advertise that they offer bariatric service.

I know I should have sympathy for a man lying in the street in agony but a certain image intrudes . . .

. . . when his scooter tipped over on top of him . . . patients who are over 350 pounds . . .
