I was wondering if it's possible to use any CF base gym? Meaning if you're not stationed at a particular base can you still use the facilities?

Thanks

Show your CF ID an you're golden.

As a CF member you can goto any CFB's Gym.

If you don't have your ID on you at the time, can you use your SN?

If you are going to go onto a base I'd recommend bringing your ID. Depending on the base you will be ID'd before entering.

Also, it would depend on the commisinaire/PSP at the front desk.. but saying a SN doesn't prove who you are(anyone can BS a SN) but picture ID does.

On CFB gagetown,Petawawa, edmonton your gonna need mil ID or your Rec card.
Wainwright IIRC no one checked.

I tried to answer this question on the weekend, but unfortunately the CFAOs don't properly conform to Tresury Board's mandated Common Look and Feel for the internet, thus aren't online. So, had to wait till I get into work to look up the relevant reference.

In accordance with CFAO 26-3 IDENTIFICATION CARDS:
POSSESSION OF I CARDS

26.    I Cards are public property and are not transferable. An I Card shall
be carried by a member of the CF at all times
except when the member is:

    a.  in military or civil custody and it is lawfully taken by military or civilian police or other competent authority;

    b.  admitted to hospital and a medical officer considers personal papers should not be retained in the hospital ward; or

    c.  required to surrender it in exchange for a special pass permitting entry to those maximum security units that are designated by the CDS.

So, to answer your question, you shall have your ID card on you, therefore there is no reason to attempt to use your service number.

Is there a CF fitness centre, pool, and or gym around Ottawa? Somewhere accessible by public transit say from downtown.

I will be working there for four months and would like to avoid paying a gym/pool membership if possible.

CF Members can make free use of the pools at the Champagne Fitness Centre at 321 King Edward Avenue, and at the downtown YMCA-YWCA at 180 Argyle Avenue. As well, there is a decent gym in the MGen Pearkes building, and mini-gyms in a lot of the buildings throughout the NCR.

A full list and some more information can be found here: http://pspottawa.mil.ca/facil/facilities_e.asp

I use the Metro "Y" at 180 Argyle every weekday (Downtown "Y" is at 99 Bank.. we're not allowed to use it for free any longer).  Lockers and showers are all "old school" but the equipment is top notch (full size gym, too!)
