While viewing a variety of course and staff task data, I found the following projected dates for upcoming Basic Infantry Courses (Regular Force). Keep in mind that these are the dates for staff and may start a week or two earlier than the course training itself. These dates are also SUBJECT TO CHANGE and some projected courses may be cancelled, but will give a general idea of what‘s coming up.

Each set of dates applies to a single training platoon.

Platoons for Basic Infantry can start with 35-40 soldiers, with the expectation that attrition from injuries and training failures will see 25-30 graduate. Sometimes it‘s more, sometimes it‘s less.

well I‘m glad I won‘t be in holding platoon that all long in meaford. unless they decide to forget about me and then slot me for the one in september, yeesh. that‘s not as long as I keep thinking it is for some reason. but I‘m sure after being out in the field for two weeks and getting maybe 8 hours total of sleep in those two weeks, I‘m sure I‘ll think different :D

anyone know why the RCR course is 3 month and 1 week ,PPCLI is 3 month 3 weeks and vandoos is 4 month 3 week?

Because you didn‘t read Michael‘s first post very well.......

Keep in mind that these are the dates for staff and may start a week or two earlier than the course training itself
Any questions?

Not to mention some courses are longer if they take place over stat holidays and/or Christmas.

I‘m curious about training differences between courses run over the winter (ie DP1 Inf 0501 â “ 11 Jan â “ 5 Apr 05) and those that are run over the other 3 seasons.

Is the course run identicaly no matter the season, and it‘s just your tough luck to land on a winter course?

Or during those dates do they offer some winter specific training that the fair weather courses can‘t cover?

If there are differences do you have to make up the content you couldn‘t cover because of the season?

.

yeah thats 1-2 weeks but there still a month difference between the RCR and vandoos course without those 2 weeks

Pierre: That all depends on what approach each Training Centre used to develop their course timetables, and from that generate their staff taskings. Without consulting each base staff, there‘s no way to definitively answer your question. The number of actual training days for candidates will be the same; the dates offered above provide general timeframes and the number of serials programmed (as far as the available information allows). Depending on which staff they are bringing in, and what expectations the Centre has on the staff to develop instructional products tailored to their course serail; some staff may be required with a longer lead time by one Training Centre than another. It does not infer an inconsistency in course content or length which are dictated by Army documents: the Course Training Plan (CTP).

GrahamD: Winter and summer serails will learn the basic fieldcraft skills, most of which are applicable to all seasons. Field living conditions will differ if the weather is extreme enough, and the difference will be made up on the job after you get to your unit. For example: most units will run refresher training on winter warfare (i.e., living in the field in winter) to ensure everyione knows what they are doing and can do it safely.

I think it would be good to do the course in the winter so that when I got to the regiment, I wouldn‘t look so clueless during a winter ex.

Micheal O leary can you tell me how you found that stuff or can you please find reserve infantry dates.
Your help would be appreicated.

The basic information came from courses listed by the Training Centres in the program used to track staff tasks. It does not include courses that do not require out-sourced staff or Reserve courses that are run at the unit level. When I checked summer Reserve courses were not yet listed.

Gentlemen I find myself a bit confused these basic infatry courses appear to but two months is tha it for basic training? I seem to recall 26 weeks of misery!

what is listed is just the last course you have to take in order to get qualified as a basic infanteer.

Thank goodness, for a bit there I thought we had taken a page out of the US training manuel!
