basic training isnt as harsh as they showed it in the movie (i know just a movie) Full Metal Jacket, where the Drill Sergent puched ppl in the gut and stuff like that. and they dont allow you to bring a gun (unloaded) into your barracks to name and sleep with (rofl)?

here are some things id like to know about basic:

Yelling: Yes or No
Put Downs: Yes or No
Minor Harmfullness to Trainee: Yes or No (punching, poking, shoving, etc)
Pushups (get down and give me 20): Yes or No

No, basic training is not as hard as they made it out to be in the movie "Full Metal Jacket". That might have been what basic was like in the states at that time, but nowadays in Canada, BT is a lot tamer than that. It‘s actually not that bad - just keep your mouth shut and do what you‘re told.

You start your weapons training in 5th week and yes - you bring your weapon back to the barracks with you. Unloaded and without the bolt. You‘re responsible for it‘s security at all times. When we did our field training, they told us to sleep with our weapons.

To answer your other questions:

Yelling: Yes, they love to yell. Don‘t take any of it personally. It‘s only a game. Treat it like a serious game and you‘ll be fine.

Put Downs: Yes, a little. Again don‘t take it personally. They‘re not allowed to harrass you though.

Minor Harmfullness to Trainee: No

Pushups: Yes.

The "minor harmfulness" part is a define no, instructors (they are not called "drill sergeants" though they are referred to as "DS" for "directing staff") must ask permission before touching you in any way.

As for pushups, you will do lots of them - as physical training. No one gets the "down and give me twenty" as punishment - it‘s forbidden. However, you may be required (as a formed body) to do them during your course day. On my phase II we had to do 25 before entering the Infantry School each day.
