How many times a year does St. Jean offer the Basic Training?

and do they have the basic training anywhere else in canada as well?

not sure how many times a year St Jean offers basic but I know that Esquimalt in BC has a boot camp up and running right now. As for other places, dont know.

Most of the classroom class are help in St-Jean but for the fild part it is done in Farnham 30 min away. It has the most sophisticated ranges in Canada, they are all digital, no need to patch the bullet holes or personnel to man the targets. Everything is automatic. All your shots and score are put in a little "gameboy" next to each firing point, you can see where all your shots went and groupings.

What makes them more sophisticated than what we‘ve got at CFB Edmonton? :)

I feel your a Res, ITS NOT CALLED F$%^ING BOOT CAMP. You STUPID Di&K HEAD. It is called BASIC TRAINING, or GENERAL MILITARY TRAINING.

I was wonderin how long it would take for someone to point that out :D

Has Basic Training always been called by that name in Canada?

Was it called Basic Training in World War 2?

Recce41 could be my Boot Camp instructor anyday or the week. He seems so calm, collect. It seems as if nothing ever gets to him or gets under his skin. :D

Yes it was always called Basic, Boot Camp is a US nic name. And is mostly used in the Army and Marines. I wish Dumbies would stop watching TV.

So no idea on how many times a year it is offered huh?
Does anyone know if the Basic Training out in BC runs at diffrent times than the one in K-Bec?

Yes Marines use it the most, but some Army types also use it. Down in Ft Knox and Ft Polk on Basic courses I have heard it when I‘ve been there.

We ALL know the proper name for it, and we ALL know the "slang" or "TV" or "American" name for it, and no one, certainly on my BMQ course really cares what the course is referred to informally.

I wouldn‘t tell the OC that I had a great time at his "boot camp" but most of the rest of the staff, etc., will know what you are talking about and won‘t raise a fuss.

I understand it is important to maintain our identity as being separate from the US, and that one should endeavour to use the proper names for things, but really... who cares? Boot camp, basic, BMQ, GMT, it all refers to pretty much the same damn thing. I suggest using the small white pill marked "Tylenol". Take several and relax.

Some guys on my BMQ (namely our rival section) got chewed out for signing american marching songs from "Full Metal Jacket"

Because we have to educate the Canadian public. I your a Res Pte.Before you beek off, get some time in. Remember in the Army if you beek off, you get it ripped off.

Well, IMO, those sing-a-longs from Full Metal Jacket are pretty stupid-sounding. There is no requirement to sing cadence while running. The only requirement is to suffer by running more/faster/harder.

I‘ll take this back to topic here...
Mike78, there is a BMQ platoon starting almost every week in St-Jean, some weeks 2 platoons. Not sure about the other locations, as they are not permanently mandated to deliver the course and I am not sure they still run it elsewhere. :cdn:
