This response has been SHARP trained  ;)

Can I use that?

When I was with the Highlanders, one of the guys I did my QL3 with was allowed to wear the jump wings he had earned in Cadets on his CF uniform, same thing.

Old School, I love the simplicity of your posts SIR!

the startin question in this thread was one i had in the recruiting section thanks for all the info.

In the Patricia world, battle school courses are usually run by the battalian that will be receieving the course being taught.  We like to train the soldiers coming to our own unit.  Having a jump course is no reasoning to put someone into a jump company.  First of all, jump taskings are still in flux and there are a large amount of guys who are qualified basic para who have been waiting for years to be employed in these roles.  To face reality, new infantry soldiers in a unit are usually placed into rifle company's to further their knowledge base in tactics and overall infantry skills.  Once a soldier is deemed trained, those that are keen and have the initiative are usually picked up by the combat support company's in platoons such as RECCE.  Pass basic and battle school first.

A selection of where you want to go - this is a fun topic. Prior to SQ we were told that we were going to 1VP, so yeah, hey we were hyped to be a Mechs. Then came BIQ, they said probably 3VP but halfway through course they said, nope 2VP (I think that was added to increase stress). You can write a memorandum in BIQ to goto another platoon than what you are slated to go and it'll get reviewed. We had a guy ask to go to 2Vp because he had a large chunk of land out there. Many wrote for 3VP or 1VP to ensure that they could be posted to where their wives were in school or holding a good job. Another even wrote to goto 3RCR because of family issues. You can ask, but in the end it's all up the military where you go.

Now for which units are needing people - that changes quite often. 3VP is overfull, 1VP has 5 extras per platoon, 2VP is crampped at the moment. You hear it all and it may be true, but by the time you hear it it may have been resolved. As I said, they put you where you're needed.

1VP (Mech) vs. 3VP (Light), I may be biased here but I'll try not to. 1VP traditionally ride in LAV-III's (though may use other veh). They'll ride up to a posn with the 25mm or 30mm gun blazing, stop and 8 guys will pile out the back do their task, get back in and go. They get to take driver courses and gunner courses for the veh's and that is something 3VP doesn't get a lot of since we don't use the LAV-III. They do a lot of ruckmarches for PT and get to stay warm(er) in the field as I'm told they sleep next to the veh. I'm also told that you can hook a PS2 in the back and play Socom prior to running out on a section attack but that's a little 3VP joke we have.
3VP is Light infantry, though nothing is really light since you have to hump in -everything- something which can make your load very heavy. It's colder at times being no veh's to warm you usually. We may get Helo-ed in or paradrop in (if you're qualified). Might get an HL or ML to take you but a lot of it is humping. Our PT is a lot of running and upper-body (in the form of circut training). 3VP does have the para-role now in C-coy, but we get to do some cool stuff (I'm not too current with the extra training 1VP does)

All in all, they are both good Battallions and both are Pats. Either of them are proud units to serve in.
