Beers & Officers in the JR‘s

Got an invite from a friend on base to come up to the JR‘s for beers. He‘s a reg force Pte. and I‘m a reserve 2Lt. I know that officers are sometimes allowed into the junior ranks, but I‘m not sure about the protocol etc...

The other thing I should mention is that there is a group of us going, and in all likelihood things will get rowdy. Not sure if I should avoid going to the JR‘s and just meet up with the gang later or what.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

As an officer, when going to someone else‘s
mess, stand at the door and ask for permission
to enter first.

As for fraternization... well we could debate
that topic for ages...

Each group has its own indivdual mess for a reason. Just because your invited doesn‘t mean you go. Only CO and RSMs have the authority to "mix" messes. You are an officer, they are Jr Ranks. Get used to it. Familiarity breeds contempt. And suppose a fight breaks out and by some chance your invovled, the s** will really hit the fan. If I were you, I would also advise your officers buddies not to attend as well. "Thanks very much for the invite, much appreciated, but unfortunataly I can‘t attend." Nothing stops you from getting togetherat a "non-mess" bar.

As one RSM put it to me (when I was a SNCO), if I wanted to be in the JRs so bad, he could make it happen.

LOL RCA - I heard an RSM tell somebody that once, as well.
