Hi,

I'm currently in Law Enforcement College, ending next Oct.2011. I want to join as an MP.
When can I begin the application process? Do I wait until after graduating or should I begin ahead of time?

There are several students in school that have the MP career in mind also.
I have heard that there are no openings in this field for a while.

I was told that the MP reserves take about 6 months to get started.

Anyhow, thanks!

It's my understanding that you have to have your course before you submit your application. In my case, I wrote the CFAT the week before I graduated and submitted my application package the following week.

Last I heard the trade was frozen, meaning no new applications are being accepted. This may or may not still be the case. Those Merit Listed and waiting Offers of Employment are waiting around for April, just like almost every other trade.

As mentioned, talk to your CFRC. Or better yet, if it's local, see if a Recruiter will attend the School and do a presentation on the trade/CF and administer the CFAT right then and there.

Your best bet is definitely to go to you closest recruiting centre and ask a recruiter. However, go with an open mind and more than just the one trade that you would like too experience. Remember on your enlistment papers it asks for your three top preferences for a reason.

If I apply for a different trade can I switch over easily to MP's though?
I am taking this school course specifically for policing.

I did have an application in last year and I got past my backround checks and then I was called 6 months later and told they were closing my file as there were no open positions for me.
I asked to change my choices to keep my application open. I wasn't given the option.
I had never had a chance to do any testing.

I want to re apply again.

I am in my 30's an feel that I am behind the ball already.

I just went thru the same thing few days ago. My trade that i applied for is highly competitive and most likely will not be hiring many positions. I had no problem changing to a trade that is open. And i just did my updated interview today!

Some will say its easy to swap trades others will say its hard, I've seen many sr members in the forums say both. Use the search function or ask the recruiters, they will have the most up to date information anyways since trades open and close frequently. Also there is a thread called trades open/closed
