Been there at the federal level (Indigenous Services/Indian Affairs/Indigenous Affairs/Aboriginal Affairs/etc.), only my job was being the comms bureaucrat touching base with the guys like you to get the information needed while trying to be as un-intrusive as possible. Tensions were especially high when the Minister was also an MP from the riding next to the one where the regional office was. Good times ...

Message control really became big under Harper and then increased again by JT, so a stain on both of them.
