After reading many post here I notice a strange sense of patriotism that people have regarding others who disagree with anything Canadian, such as the Native man who "won't stand on guard for thee", or the case of premere Danny William's taking the flag off of gov't buildings. It seems alot of people really get all puffed up when  someone acts in a way that is deemed un-Canadian or not patriotic. It really looks as though we are becoming more and more American in the way we won't tolerate anything that is not towing the line. This brings up something that has been on my mind for sometime (insert prerequisite 'thinking' joke here) why are we so in love with this country? Our gov't, whether Conservative or Liberal has f*cked us over countless times, the military has hardly ever looked after it's soldiers when they are hurt or filled in action, and we pay the highest taxes in North America and we have nothing to show for it, except the Sponsership Scandal. The Nfld premier removed the Canadian flag from gov't buildings and nearly everyone here shat on him for it, even though he was fed up with all the money Nfld could be making off its own resources, instead of the Federal gov't giving the procedes to Quebec, which is who gets everything in this twisted country! Kazemi is raped, tortured, and killed, maybe not in that order, and wouldn't you know it, Canada does f*ck-all to help one of its own! Man I would not want to have this country in my corner if I was ever in a situation such as hers! And the Native issue! Yes that idiot that doesn't want to 'stand on guard' for the country, yes that burns my ass, but we have fueled that problem fro as long as our country has been in existence. By babysitting these Natives with loads of money, housing, no-taxes etc. we have made them depedant on the gov't's tit.
I don't hate this country, I'm just questioning why we are so patriotic lately, it seems like a growing trend and maybe some form of indoctrination into becoming another handfull of States.

It seems the current trend in Canada is that to be truly Canadian one must be horribly anti-American. You see it on just about every forum available. More than likely started back in the era of "Saint Pierre" who never missed an opportunity to bash the Americans while at the same time cozying up to such bastions of human rights and freedom like China, Russia and Cuba.
Remember that one can still love his country and respect others. Something that the anti-Americans in the crowd fail to understand!

Steve-O,
Just the fact you ask that question shows that you need to do some traveling....

Uh, yeah! I expected some kind of short, sweet and very ignorant reply, but from one of the very A-holes that give everyone else **** for posting stupid and inflamatory remarks??? If you can't say something relevant, piss off!

By the way tough guy, I lived in Japan for two years, does that count for you?

Edit-Don't cheat the censor

Steve-O: That kind of namecalling is not acceptable. This thread will be locked, and if you continue this, you will receive a warning.

Oh, and to answer the inevitable question, the suggestion someone is not well-travelled is quite different than calling someone an a**hole.

And yet, those who don't share your perception of a stereotypical "Canadian" version of apathy towards remarks against the nation are in your own opinion un-Canadian (i.e., like Americans in defence of their nation) because they fail to comform to your personal view?

Michael O'Leary (your quote)

"And yet, those who don't share your perception of a stereotypical "Canadian" version of apathy towards remarks against the nation are in your own opinion un-Canadian (i.e., like Americans in defence of their nation) because they fail to comform to your personal view?"

The answer is NO!  How did you infer this? People are welcome to their opinions, and in no way did I suggest that if they didn't agree with me they were wrong, you have put these words in my mouth without giving me the chance to respond. And it isn't too fair to post your last comment in a topic that has been locked, is it? That could be taken for cowardice. I snapped at Monkhouse, yes, and I appologise, it wasn't acceptable, but I don't think that his comment was either, nor was it constructive or relative to the post. If someone wanted to disagree with what I wrote, great! It is still a free country, but sarcastic little quips? I have heard that profanity is the inability of a feebl mind to fully express itself, touche! But I have also hear that sarcasm is the lowest form of humour, so perhaps Monkhouse isn't as clever as he feels he is?

This is all personal and off topic. Take it to PMs please.
