i got a stupid question, but is bmq and basic training the same thing?

To be more precise, BMQ is the first half of basic training for the army. You then proceed to the SQ, which is a "soldier qualification" which gives you an idea of what infantry operations and weapons are like.

oh ok, so in the 2 month prgram or whatever the bmq is the first 4 weeks people talk about where it is classroom work, and then you do things such as weapons training and such? thx guys

BMQ, you will learn, drill, dress and deportment, C7 drills, qualify on the C7, learn map and compass, first aid, etc

SQ, like Kirkpatrick said, your learn some Infantry skills, like section attacks, etc.

Not from what I gather.

I believe SQ is required for all Army occupations. It‘s a a very basic taste of what the infantry does. That way, all personel will have at least some training with the standard weapons and tactics used by the Canadian infantry, beyond the C7 and stuff you learn in basic. Just in case you ever need to know how to use the stuff on short notice.

The you proceed on to your MOC training, wherever that may be. If you‘re infantry you go on to refine the skills you learn in SQ plus learn everything else that an infanteer needs to know.
