The military has launched an investigation with the Halifax police, after a body was found on Canadian Forces property in the city's west end.
Police said they will not identify the man until his family has been notified, and have not revealed whether he belonged to the military.
"The investigation is being led by the Canadian Forces Investigation Services, in cooperation with the Halifax Regional Police," military spokesperson Jeri Grychowski told CTV Atlantic.
The remains were found near a store in Windsor Park, a complex that also has apartment buildings for the military, a family resource centre and a curling club.
Civilians also have access to the area surrounding the store.
Resident Eileen Beck, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 17 years, said she was startled to learn that a body had been found.
"It's pretty shocking," she said. "It's a pretty quiet area, so you don't expect to hear something like this."
Her comments were echoed by Halifax Regional Councillor Patrick Murphy, who represents the community.
"It's something that's not normal to this area, because it's a well-patrolled area by the military police," he said.
Saturday's discovery marked the second suspicious death in the area in less than a week.
Last Monday, 28-year-old Matthew James Ayer died after he was stabbed in Halifax's north end. Four days later, a 17-year-old suspect turned himself in to police.

It's CFB Windsor Park. And I'm guessing the body was behind the CANEX, from the photos. May be someone ditched the body on DND property? The area is not the greatest. :
