We don't get recognized very often, so it's kinda nice that President Bush has seen fit to praise the Canadian military fighting valiantly in Afghanistan, see Canada.com, CanWest News Services.

"Well, I would like to praise the Brits, the Canadians, the Dutch, the Danes and other countries for their contributions - the Aussies for their contribution of shooters, fighters, people that are willing to be on the front line of this battle," Bush said.

"These are brave souls. They're working side-by-side with the Afghan forces and the U.S. forces to deal the Taliban a blow. And I've only got praise for them."

This comes at a time when the head of NATO, Jaap der Hoop Scheffer let it be known that he was not satisfied with the troop numbers in Afghanistan, and that more countries need to be involved in some of the heavier fighting in the south of Afghanistan, see my earlier blog.  Canada's Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier is meeting today with Condoleeza Rice to discuss the war in Afghanistan and other issues.

Canadian troops have been given the opportunity to send personal messages and Christmas greetings to their loved ones back home via MPEG format and can be downloaded from this site: Canadian Forces

And we can write to the troops or send cards - packages are discouraged - to show our appreciation and support.  Merry Christmas to all our brave men and women who are doing the nation so proud!
