I'm tyring to buy a hand gun but I ran into a snag.

Apparently I need to belong to a handgun club before I am allowed to take possession of the pistol? (Or at a gues sbefore it is even sent to me?)

How difficult is this to get? I'm in Petawawa, is there any handgun club around petawawa that I can join?

There are 2 clubs in the Petawawa area, the first and least recommended is the Pembroke Outdoor Sportsman's Club on Doran road, not recommended as the club's executive is not proactive and tends to blame the handgun/action shooters for just about everything that goes wrong at the club. The club is not up to par safety wise as well.

The second option is the Eganville and District Sportsman's Club which has much better range facilities and shooting atmosphere (no drunks looking over your shoulder as you shoot) it is located on 4th Cute Road near the Bonachere Caves. Well worth the drive, I switched there from the Pembroke club and couldn't be happier.

Beat me to it MG,

also have a look at http://www.cdnshootingsports.org/  for a list of other "Shooting Organizations"

Stay Safe

Further, although I have heard of many cases where individuals have received their registration certificates and ATT's to take their handguns home, I always recomend people join the club first. The club will usually supply firearms to take the required safety courses, and most clubs will have activities in several different disciplines. This gives the shooter a little more time to decide what they wish to pursue in terms of firearm, and therefore possibly prevent them from an unwanted purchase.

There are more than a few dusty hanguns out there that were bought before people had a chance to really examine what they wanted to do with them. There will be a tremendous variety of opinions and experience at the club, many members will have decades of competitive shooting under their belts, why waste it.

Above all, Stay Safe

Talk to Mg34 - and go to the range with his entourage -- they will have a lot of different options and you can see what fits your hand the best.

Actually, I'm "slumming" a bit north of there, trying to stay out of the big smoke as much as possible right now, a tad unfriendly to shooters these days.

But I hate to pass on a trip to the range,
