C6 and Infantry??

To add to Mr Mackinlay‘s last comment, the first batch of C7‘s received int the mid-80‘s were manufactured by Colt and assembled by Diemaco. :cdn:

I had a weapons tech tell me once about "endurance tests" that they run on weapons everyone and a while. Basically he said that just gather all the ammo they could find and just shoot the weapons till failure. If you ask me there must be cheaper and more economical ways of testing weapon!

Thanks Disturbance for mentioning that. I‘d like to qualify that story but the fact I was specifically ordered to expend the ammo given to me (25 mags, I only fired 17) in a short time (a few minutes) by the PPCLI warrant and captain who ran the demo. Several other weapons were involved in the same incident. Mine was the only one that melted, however two C9‘s fell apart (hand guards, sight, various other pieces) while firing and several weapons caught on fire. The C6 in the SF kept goin‘...

And these are the same guys that insist there must be an infantry small arms instructor on the range to ensure proper drills! No thanks the armoured does‘nt need or require them, have our own advanced gunners and afv coaches.

What kind of stupid test is that... these trials had been conducted prior to choosing the weapons types we were buying. I remember beating the sh*t out of a few MINIMIS, M16A2‘s and FNC‘s in the mid-80‘s in the CAR, but it was for trial purposes, before we chose the weapons. Enfield, that certainly sounds like abuse to me, is there some kind of inquiry into this incident ?
BTW, I am not surprised the C6 kept firing, this weapon can take more abuse than any other. :cdn:

Hey RECCEGUY, you‘ve been around long enough and should know better... there are unprofessional a*sh*les everywhere, all corps, all trades, all units, res F AND reg F. I have met the occasional tanker twit who has no idea what they are doing. Actually, one of my friends was killed by a C6 bullet in the throat because an Armd Regt CO gave a stupid order... that was during pre-depl trg back in ‘93. :cdn:

Nope, no inquiry, nothing happened. Some NCO‘s asked me questions, but that was all.
Fr some reason that ex, last year in Ft. Lewis, had huge amounts of live ammo to burn. A C6 in SF shoot we did earlier that week lasted for hours, it took a couple ML‘s to move out all the ammo for just six guns.

The firepower demo that was in had plenty of ammo as well. It was the usual demo, with a wooden house made up and various materials and equipment in front - helmets, body armor, cinder blocks, etc. It was for a bunch of brass, VIP‘s, civvie employers, and othe other troops.
The C6 kept ticking. I had to stop shooting when my rifle got to hot to hold, the other C7‘s had flames coming off them, and the C9‘s rattled apart. My firsyt inkling something was wrong with my rifle was when that night the flash suppressor fell off while I was cleaning it.
The helmet and flak jacket that were used are now in my mess.

Jungle,
Absolutley true! I won‘t dispute that. It‘s just we keep getting msgs saying we‘ve got to have one of these guys on the C7 range. Just seems like twisted logic to me. Sorry about your friend.

Enfield, I think somebody is not doing their job at your unit...

Recceguy, there used to be other cbt arms trades on small arms crses, wonder why that stopped... probably a budget thing for a change... :cdn:

May not be the same thing, but armour has the Advanced Gunner Course, all weapons and ranges from 9mm pistol to 105mm L7 tank gun. The Armoured Reserve do AFV Coach, same thing but stops at 76mm. Also a bunch of us took Small Arms Coach a few years back, but it may have been just an area thing.

RECCEGUY, is the Advanced Gunner Course mandatory for everyone ? And if it is, at what rank level ? Small Arms Instr is mandatory for ALL (reg F)Inf MCPL‘s, although for different reasons, some do it as a young Sgt. :cdn:

Jungle,
AG can be done by MCpl and up, it is not mandatory. Just an extra like Adv Comms and Adv D & M.
