C7 vs C9

You get what you get. If you bitch about carrying the C9 and all the E.I.S. that goes with it tough, suck it up.The guns should go to troops that are motivated and actually go full throttle during an attack. Unfotunately most moe-litia warriors see it as a punishment.**** I carry the C6. The C7 is a fine rifle. It‘s just not a GUN. I‘m sad that took the 50 away from us.

As a 2Lt you‘ll be issued exactly the same kit as everyone else - though you‘ll find you have to wait longer for most Gucci items as they go to the troops first. Other than on courses, you‘ll never find yourself carrying a support weapon though, you‘ll just have a rifle and a radio. You might be issued a pistol, but don‘t count on it unless you‘re deployed somewhere.

what is a "Gucci" item, anyways? Is it a slang term for something, or is it actuall gucci crap?

It‘s a slang term for any sort of fancy (not commonly seen) kit, issue or otherwise. Gucci boots, for example, is the term that was commonly applied to the Cold Wet Weather Boots when they first came out.

See also under "Go-Faster" kit or "high-speed low drag model."

I don‘t know what you‘ve heard before but this is the score on personal weapons. In basic you‘ll be given a C-7 and later C-9‘s and support weapons will show up as you progress through your training ie BIQ, SQ whatever they call them now for me it was QL2/3. When your platoon has its full compliment of weapons the C-9‘s usually go to the guys who were profiecient with their drills and the C-6 its the same deal. As for the 84mm and the 60mm those are passed around and each troop takes their turn carrying them. Finally when you get to your regiment and your qualified and only if your in the wpns det as a gunner on the pltn wpns you‘ll be issued a 9mm as your personal weapon. Outside of that you have officers and all those detachments like FOO‘s and FAC‘s who might carry a side arm. Piece of advice I‘ll pass on that I got awhile back if you can do without a sidearm especially as an officer then do so, you‘ll stick out like a sore thumb in a snipers scope. The C-7 is you best friend, be like everybody else. :sniper:

Is not the C9 now part of the Machine Gunner‘s Course?

Here on the West Coast, only qualified Machine Gunner‘s are allowed to carry the C6 and C9 from what I have heard of late?
Correct me if I‘m wrong.

When I did the machine gunners course it was c-5 and the .50. That‘s it...I guess things have probably changed since though.

Negative, course candidates arriving on course should already be proeffient on C-9 drills. On the old MG course there was some C-9 familiarization on the course so gunners could get more range time on the MG‘s. For the most part the meat and taters was all on the C-6 and sustained fire. On the good courses the fifty cal was also introduced but that has been phased out. The MG course itself has been replaced with the DP2A course which is platoon weapons and small arms. As for only qualified gunners carrying MG‘s it would be nice if you could but there simply is a lack of qualified personal that grasp the art of machine gunning. Not everybody fully grasps that MG‘s are the majority of platoon fire power, if there not spitting out rounds then were in trouble.

The #1 Gunner For the C6 Carries A Browning.
Ah Gucci Kit, Tac Vest hmmmm

I Like The C7 The Best, Becuase I Can Shoot Well...

I‘m not sure where you get your info from, but high ranking officers are definetely not the only ones who carry sidearms. Everyone from 3IC up carry‘s a Browning(atleast on tour) Yet I‘ve never seen the RSM with one...strange. C9‘s can go to anyone in the section, typically privates or corporals, depending on the unit, they will either give it to new guys or guys with a bit of TI.

Recce Tech...ever been on tour? No, didn‘t think so. I know plenty of guys here who are Cpls and they carry Brownings. Don‘t make a comment unless you know ALL the facts.

For the comment about pickin‘ up a piece during war...TRUE. I personally know plenty of guys from the UNPROFOR tour the Pics did back in ‘93 and they used whatever they could get their hands on. This was just before the Medac Pocket battle. It was authorized. As for peace time using one‘s own pistol...BOLLOCKS! Nuff said about that.

Slim...I remember the good ol‘ days of the C5..**** accelerators, tripped them again!

When did you get out. Ever posted to the school?

Regards

:salute:

Got a first hand account of that on a piss-up one night; digging in a Russian 76mm AT gun they captured when they sent the Croats packing. There are MANY other stories from those tours that Scott Taylor never picked up on....

I was looking in a old toronto star yesterday, its was the one with Cpl. Murphy on it, there was a big picture of him well if you take a good look at it you notice he was carying a pistol.

yah, but he was driving or in the Iltis, sometimes they get a pistol, becuase it‘s easyier to swing a pistol out then a rifle.
