Hey,
Newbie here.  From what i've gathered the ICE's seam to have trouble finding soilder's backs, let alone civillian.  What i want to know is if the CadPat ICE's will be availible to the masses via, surplus store, or on-line store anytime soon.

I need a new winter coat and i can't think of a classier way of doing it.  Pretty sure i don't have a chance..
lemme know what you think.
take care

No, you will not find any ICE gear showing up in surplus stores anytime soon. If you do, chances are its stolen.

If you want a good jacked for winter, check out MEC, etc

Gawd...
It's bad enough when I have to deal with "squeegie kids" wearing combats (mk1s) hassling me & my car.
While most of the reserves are still using the old monocolour IECS, they better not start selling off the ICE in surplus stores.

The day that happens...I guarantee that I will CEASE to be a Supply Tech or a member of the CF....

Geo, it's not just reservists with the solid green IECS, I've seen a lot of guys up on CFB Kingston with it. As well, for the vast majority of us RMC cadets, no IECS with the exception of the boots and gloves.

NP bigfoot.... I understand. ICE is going out to the troops who deploy....
I would have thought that that measure would have been for the initial issue... but they're still doing it. Go figure.

Hey it's not just the RMC/St Jean folks. Here at Gagetown we are still awaiting conversion to ICE. We have 1st line operational Units such as 2RCR and 4ESR here, and we're all still in IECS (olive drab gortex), except those of us, of course, who have augmented another BG in their deployment. Other than that we're all still in the old stuff.... :'(

In Ontario my gortex coat  arm zipper is ripped and theres a few small holes and i can't get it replaced because  they don't have enough old stock and they are trying to stock pile all the cadpat coats

That's why all the US Gortex is sent to this base to be repaired...sad but true....before it can go to Peerless he gets a chance at it. He does some amazing work!! Glad that I happen to have him situated right in Clothing Stores with all his equipment!! An excellent guy!!

There was a bunch of people in my office that had never seen a CADPAT bivy bag, until I brought a bunch of them to the Surplus store in Gatineau and showed them one.  This time last year.  I can almost guarantee you that there is ICE in the surplus stores.  Just leave it, ignore it.  I have never seen people get hassled about this, so I don't let it bother me anymore.  The stuff is on Ebay all the time, so anyone willing to pay for it, giver.  And throw away your receipt, cause no one will ever challenge you for proof of purchase.  There is holes at every stage of the supply system, thankfully they are small, and get smaller as those people retire and are replaced.

Ha! Imagine what it would be like if our kit didn't suck? We'd never see any of it!

(Sorry, Bomber, I'm sure the new sleeping gear and the other stuff you were working on is great...:))

Can someone explain to me why Air Force and Navy have the ICE gear? And I am still stuck with Oliver green jacket...hell you can buy the jackets at Clothing Sales in Halifax I re call... or I"ll have to check again... may be I am seeing something.... hmm... odd huh?

Uhmmm, as discussed on many other threads the Air Force bought their own cadpat gortex (It's CEMS stuff not Clothe the Soldier stuff)...that's why they get to wear it. They bought enough at the outset to kit out all their Blue DEU personnel. Blame the Army if you don't have yours.
As for the Navy, I dunno, maybe you're seeing guys on ships wearing it? They could very well be support trades ie Sup Techs, RMS etc who wear land or Air DEUs. It's also possible that you are seeing some of the Army guys from Gagetown and area who are currently tasked to Halifax to provide security on board ships etc...many of those pers have deployed on operations and therefore have their ICE already. Don't assume that because you see them on a ship, or even walking around Halifax that it is a person of Naval DEU who is wearing it. Cripes, when I was posted there half of our monthly divisions parade was in Blue DEU. And if it is a Navy guy wearing it, perhaps an exception to the rule was made at NDHQ for whatever reason, they after all get to decide who the exceptions (and what the exceptions) will be.

So is 2RCR, 4ESR (all of Gagetown as a matter of fact) etc so don't panic, there's plenty of 1st line operational Units in the Army still waiting...you've got awhile yet!!

I do believe that you may be wrong here regarding the selling of cadpat or jackets. Check into it again though. Be sure to let me know if that is indeed the case because I will absolutely lose it!!  :threat:

unless navy type is attached to an air or land unit, no reason for the blue pukes to wear any cadpat... ICE or other.
They still have their blue, similar to all other navies in the world, working dress... or have I missed a canforgen again ?

Yeah they still have their NCDs.
I don't think there's any actual Naval DEU in Halifax wearing the Army ICE. Like I said, Gagetown currently has some of our Army guys serving on ships doing security (and wearing their ICE doing it) so it's possible that these guys are the 'sailor's' he's seeing on ship.
PS...one of them was home here last week and popped in to complain that the Navy was making him wear a Ball cap on ship with his ICE....looked like a dork...
RUMINT....

And standing on a grey ship in the middle of the Atlantic ocean wearing CADPAT doesn't make you look like a dork?
Sure it does, but just imagine...grey ship, relish cadpat ICE and to top it all off, a really nice blue ballcap with gold embroidered lettering. Very very professional looking ain't it?

PS, I actually have no idea what the current colours for the Naval ball caps are, I haven't been there since I got posted out to Pet in 91 (thank goodness!!), but they were blue and gold then...I can just picture the scene now
