I just leased a new 2006 Mazda3 GX.  My current insurance company wants to take me for 3700$

I called Wawanesa and got a full 2 way quote (Theft, fire, vandalism, hit and run, replacement value, etc etc) for 1300$  (That's including my military discount.  Score!)

This is the best I have been offered so far (the second being Desjardins at 1780$)

I don't plan on seeing much better than 1300 for a brand new car, but if anyone has some insurance company suggestions so I can check with them it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my car in Alberta.

IF you have a state farm check them out. I went from 3400 to 1500.

Good luck!

You can find just about anything here, except a date.

Unfortunately leasing it automatically adds to the premium..

Get a broker to do the legwork for you. Rates vary all across the country, and MTL unfortunately is the car theft capital of Canada so you'll pay for that too >:(  We got a good deal through Citadel. We also opted for a $2500.00 deductible because it dropped the rate a lot ; it's not like we'd claim anything under $1000.00 anyway since it would hike future premiums and we can afford to cover out of pocket. Go for the highest deductible you can afford.

I've heard State Farm horror stories so I'd never go with them. MInd you I also worked right next to them at one point.

Another thing to remember - check the payout percentage of the insurers; no point in having lower premiums if that company has a low payout.

You might want to try Meloche Monnex at 1-800-268-8955 they offer reduced rates for engineers and alumni of Carleton University among others.  I was quoted $2,300 for a 2006 Ford Escape and they gave me a rate of $1,241.  My wife is a Carleton Alumni.

Good point there!

Meloche Monnex administersm policies for many colleges, unis and professional associations. Defnitely worth a call.

Well im not in any college or Alumni right now, but I'll check them out anyway.

But thanks for the suggestions thus far.

For me, I wanted a Smart Car. $11.00 worth of gas per every 400 km. Brand new, VERY safe roll cage technology. ETC. I have about $11,000 saved up. With insurance the $11,000 + interest would pay off the car probably. I was also making enough money to pay insurance of say 2000-3000$ a year. However, my insurance wanted $9600 a year for the most basic of insurance for the smart car. Completely unacceptable price for something I would never use.

Honestly insurance is such BS anyway. In your lifetime you could put $100,000+ into insurance and never ever use it.

Until the day you need it and wish you had it ;)

Sucks to be a male teen driver doesn't it? At your age get a used car, get a few years experience under your belt, show them you can drive without incident, and then get a newer car.

Right now I am selling cars while I wait for a security clearance to start a new job.  The joy of immigrating! You really have to be aware of the categories of the car you're going to purchase for insurance purposes.  For a first car, something used or something "entry level" is the way to go unfortunately, even if you can afford more.

Give  PCFinancial insurance a try. I've had State Farm, Cooperators, Royal Insurance in the past, PC gave me a good price. Worth looking at.

Looks good, but unfortunately they're not in Quebec.

Don't mind me, the topic of insurance just kills me. I recently bought a 2007 Honda Fit, and my insurance company is taking me for $4,000. Wow, it still hurts to say that. I did do some researching and it seems that is the standard for my age and car in Alberta. Being 19 in Alberta with a new car sucks! There has to be something I can do to turn 25 over night...right? ;)

Make sure you check lots of places out before you settle. I am thinking come fall I'll be looking for a few more quotes and looking into switching companies. I decided a bit too quick I think.

I am with State Farm and have never had a problem... and believe me .. I have used them lol. (No snarky remarks about women drivers !!! lol)

They haven't dropped me yet - and my rates are not insane.

Edit: fixed spelling

Don't go with Wawanesa. They are not very good at listening. Hubby was with them, he asked them if they would change the date they took the insurance out, but somehow they thought he meant cancel the insurance. So he drove for a month before he realized he had none. He had them put it back on until we could find someone else. We went through morgex and they are not too bad. We pay around 2500 a year for two of us, but I have never been insured before and hubby is under 25. The good thing is, they are good when you need to make a claim (stupid parked car getting in my way). Even the sales guy was awesome, he explained everything to me because I had never gotten insurance by myself before (something hubby left for me to do when he went on tour).  >:D
