That indent you are referring to is on the C7..its just bad lighting. The indent is where the mag release button is.

And even after looking at my Janes Warship Recognition Guide (1996) Im still not too sure what the Differance between a Krivak I, II, or III class is... apart from the Class III being the most modern...

then again... Im a trucker... If i have to worry about a soviet warship, then something has probabbly gone terribly terribly wrong! ;D

Krivak I has square shaped guns on the aft part of the ship
Krivak II has more rounded guns at the same position
Krivak III has no guns on the aft part as it has a flight deck
