Does anyone know if there will be more tours to Afghanistan?  I was told that the last tour was a couple months ago.

I had my application completed back in November 2009, when there were budget cuts, so I wasn't able to join the regular infantry.

I came back to the recruiting center a while ago because I wanted to join the reserves, and was told I should wait a month until April, to see if they will be recruiting more for regular infantry, as I will most likely be offered a job.

I'm asking because If there are, I would join for sure.  I want to experience it.  (I'm currently in college for Police Foundations and would give that up.)

If the only reason you want to join is to go overseas is in my opinion not a smart decision.  Right now by the time you get in and finish your training Afghanistan will be over, that being said there will probably some other mission somewhere in the world.  However even if you are in does not mean you will deploy, it sometimes is right place, right time. I have known people that want to deploy but their Company was not picked so they did not get to go.

My advice think long and hard before quitting school and signing up for 3 years on the slim chance of deploying (if that is your only reason to join)

Better off flying a small airplane there.

I believe we're finished sometime in July 2011 (Correct me if I'm wrong). Also know that CFB Petewawa facebook page has photos from the USA of the base Canadian Forces are training on for the last deployment of soldiers.

I can sense this one spiralling down the ol'crapper soon.........

No need for dogpiling here guys and gals.

Answer to your question: Yes, there will be more tours. No, the last tour was NOT a few months ago.

I recommend you complete your education that you are in then perhaps try to join the Forces afterwards?  It's not worth dropping out unless you have a guaranteed job, no?

Stay in shape, stay smart and use the military as a backup knowing that you have the enthusiasm to reapply at a later date.  In the meantime, you can join the Reserves and see if the military actually is for you or not.  There may even be opportunities to get overseas as a Reservist AND be a student!

Good luck.
