How many Canadian owned and operated defense companies do we have? Off the top of my head Para Ordnance( i am not sure if its a defense company per se) , Bombardier and what else? What "Canadian" companies  are playing critical roles in design and development of new defense technologies and further more, which companies are winning lucrative contracts with the CF or other world militaries? Thanks...... btw I am happy to come across this forum!  :) bouncing around between Ontario and the States its nice to have a place to  keep up to date about the CF :cdn:

Just off the top of my head, the major ones would be:

Diemaco (small arms)
CAE (simulators)
Macdonald Dettwiler (electronic systems, primarily naval & space)
GDLS Canada (US - owned - formerly GM Defence Canada - designs & builds armoured vehicles)
All of the above have sold to foreign militaries to some extent, GD probably being the most succesful in the export market.

There is also MIL Davie & Halifax shipyards (Cdn-owned), & Victoria shipyard (US-owned), although they have built exclusively for Canada AFAIK.
