If you are not a member, please discuss what it would take to get you to join. If you want to be a member but don't know how to become one, please leave a message.

( I modified this so it was less argumentative.)

So you want to know why we are not members..............sounds like you are setting everyone up for an attack here. Why don't you start off by explaining why you are a member first and then perhaps people will share as to why they are not.

Nice original handle btw.

Chimo!!!!!!!

Good point, I will explain why I am a member. I joined the original Branch Fund when I was a Sapper. I was in a troop with a Soldier who had a child who was sick and had to go from Petawawa to Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital at least once a month. The Fund came up with a $1500 grant to help offset his expenses. That sewed it up for me.

I think that any organisation that supports engineers is a good thing. But we have too many good things, MEAC, CMEA, Branch Fund, Retired Sappers, and several others. We are all trying to reach into the same limited pot. Many of these organisations have rolled into the CMEA. The CMEA is at a fledging state and in some places is having a hard time getting off the ground.

Many engineers, rightfully ask, what's in it for me? The way CMEA is structured, the local level membership can best answer that question, but whether or not the local membership, wants to support sporting events, social events, special occasions, etc. The national answer to whats in it for me is , support to pushing the engineer agenda, for equipment, training, positions, etc, a bursary program, recognizing national events like CMEA 2003 and support to the CME museum and CFSME Top students awards.

Trust me, I will never attack anyone for not being a member, but I am curious why dedicated engineers are reluctant to join. It is only $2 a month.

Finally, I am glad you like my nickname, it isn't original but I do like it, CHIMO! ;)

Maybe I am just not understanding your post, But what exactly does the CMEA do, Other than support engineers?

The CMEA (Canadian Military Engineers Association) is a CME-only type thing. To find out more about what it is / does, click here.

Doesn't really apply to non Engineer types, but some good info nonetheless....

I am disappointed but not surprised at the lack of discussion on the CMEA. Although many Engineers are envious of the Infantry Regiments funds, and ability to do things, it would seem like we as a Branch don't see the same need.  :rage:

This will be my last comment on the subject, Chimo! :salute:

I paid into the Branch fund from its creation until I retired in Nov of '02.  The only thing I ever saw from the fund was a snazzy little pin when I first joined it.  Personal gain is not what I signed up for the fund for, by the way.  Perhaps The troops did benefit from the fund, but it was kept under pretty close wraps.  In order for the fund to attract members, maybe it should be a little more vocal in its achievements...Unless things have changed since I packed it in, that is.

CHIMO,  Kat

Things haven't really changed Kat - as far as I know, the only place it is vocalized about is at the school. I cannot remember the last time I heard of the CME fund being used for something at 2CER.

'Tis a shame.....
