i have never read or heard of any history of Canadian Troops leaving the field of battle before they have won the war, is there any case of Canadian pulling out of battle because we have not won or could not win the war?

if that is the case there is no history of it, maybe the people we voted in to power in Ottawa will realize it is not the time to make history by making or planning a Canadian withdrawn from the field of battle in the sandbox.

Former,

I am not sure that it is important anymore. The Primeminister backs us, and the Liberal Party is backing us as per the release issued yesterday. The PQ and the NDP's don't count for nothing anyways so I wouldn't fret much.

Chimo!

Battle of Ridgeway ?

Of course that was a battle rather than a war.

One could also argue that the Korean War fulfils the criteria.

I know free advice is often worth exactly what you pay for it.....but you may get more responses if you put a more specfic title on the threads you create.

i do not consider somila or other peacekeeping missions i was thinking more of actual wars where we were on the losing side?
i know we had to of lost some battles, it is bound to happen. but did we ever lose a war?

If one wants to go back to basics, Canada lost the French and Indian War and was on the losing side in the American War of Independence.

was canada even formed then as a country? I think at that point in time it was simply a possession of either France/England (revolving).

In my opinion, whether we were an independent country or not is not germane to the question. The eminent historian George F. Stanley cited both wars in his book Canada's Soldiers. (My copy is the revised edition which came out in 1960 so I can't cite when it was first published.) Furthermore Canada did not achieve status as an independent country until we enacted the Statutes of Westminster in 1931. I guess my position is that most of our battles were as a colony or a self-governing dominion.

So then we should start counting from 1867?
