First I've ever seen of a pattern for Canadian Ranger headstones - from the Sandy Lake First Nation web page:
Two former members of the Canadian Rangers were recognized for their service in a ceremony today in Sandy Lake.

Delilah Meekis and Frederick Meekis both served in the Canadian Forces as members of Sandy Lake Canadian Ranger Patrol Group before passing away.

"This is historically significant", said Capt. Bob Munroe, adjuctant (sic.) for the Canadian Rangers.

This is the first time in Canadian military history that a Canadian Ranger has been given recognition on their headstone for their service in the Canadian Forces, said Capt. Munroe.  The honor has traditionally been reserved for members who fought in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War....

That t his Ranger wanted to have the unique headstone placed on his grave is a sign (IMO) that his dedication and loyalty were certainly strong.  I am glad to see the request was Granted.

In Newfoundland the forestry men who were sent to Scotland to cut lumber for the war effort was recognized by a similar headstone to the combat troops. The difference being the cross was denoted at the bottom with forestry being the unit.Where as soldiers had the cross at the top and their trade (Infantry etc).I believe in our country that people were recognized for the effort they put into the great country of Newfoundland.

I am glad this man was recognized as well.Anyone that will donate that much of their life to Canada, and requests made to have it placed on his headstone shows the character for sure.

This is the right thing to do, about time they received recognition like this.  They are truly unsung heros.
