Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

For those who can't see the video;

Very interesting showing from Davie, I have never seen these renders or related info elsewhere yet. We'll see if its all blunder, Davie doesn't have much of a track record to go off especially with warships. I wonder if these are just repackaged designs they got from buying Helsinki Shipyards lol.
That is the vibe I got from their Polar Class announcement, that the partnership brings more than just icebreaking capability.

The Spanish has just launched the first of class of their F110 frigate, which features the SPY-7 radar. Hopefully any bugs in that hardware are discovered early and debugged by the Spanish before the first sets are delivered to Irving.

This video covers some of the reasons we choose the Type 26 over the others. But I believe he got the VLS number wrong for the Canadian version, which I think is currently 24?
Yah currently 24. I don't know what they've done with the ExLS space. I think its become CSE storage space for tools and equipment. Or they may have just removed it entirely.

the 24 seaceptors in front of the Mk41 on the UK version or
the 24 seaceptors amidships?
both areas are available to be repurposed on our variant correct?
is searam going to be placed where CIWS was?

no but presumably we are making use of that space as well for something? Do we plan on putting the 8 MK41 back in there at some point?
Sea ceptor launchers are very short and because of their cold launch capability are very compact. Mk 41 launchers (that currently exist) are much too long to fit into the same space as where the ExLS was going to be without losing a good chunk of the mission bay.

AFAIK that space is either going to be CSE quipment and tool storage OR some discussion on making it the RAM magazine for reloads.

The RAM launcher seems to have been added to this digital model on the cover of the latest issue of the Maritime Engineering Journal.
(I ignore the articles and only read it for the pictures)
Makes sense from a coverage perspective, but that's also a weird spot because its on top of an exhaust stack. So good luck doing any maintenance, reloads or inspections while underway if those generators its exhaust are working. Also it looks dumb there (not a valid concern), and really damages the ships radar cross section.

Also it removes our assumption that that would be two RAM Mk49 launchers. Given the space used in the model its obvious why, a RAM wouldn't be able to fit where the UK CIWS is located. Its twice as big, so placing a single one in an all round configuration is a good option. Problem is here the ship wasn't designed for this bolt on, the arcs are awkward, as is the placing of the system. The ship was designed for a VLS CIADS. So saving money on integration by going with an already integrated weapons system is costing us on the geographic/physical side of the design. A lot less money but there are intangibles here.

I'm also not sure that's going to be the final placing for the Antiship missiles.
