Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

My understanding it that the whole purpose of the land-based testing facility is to put together all the electronic components for the River-class to test and make sure they work together with the AN/SPY-7 Radar and Aegis before you put it on a ship and find out that things don't work together or that they interfere with each other where they are placed on the mast, etc. Testing is done on a virtual ship to ensure that you don't build hull #1 and only find out the problems then.

fair im just saying there is a lot of reasons other than the RCN needs and wants why it cant or wont or shouldnt be drastically reduced
Im curious if the Spanish have their own land test facility and if they are the only other users?

spanish land test facility does exist

Testing will continue as a lifecycle function, since technology continues to progress through the life of the platform.

I'm not suggesting any reductions for the Rivers. I was asking if this new test facility would be needed or best utilized 'if' the River class wasn't going to be the full 15 discussed.
The facility is where we make Aegis Version RCD our own. We will manage all the upgrades and changes from there. It's integral to the continuing support of the entire class. Also training for some of the techs and integration testing for any new equipment. Its basically a shore based ship for the combat sensors and combat management systems.

So right now the plan is to tear down D206 and reestablish a much larger and more secure Naval Depot out near Shearwater/Woodside. It will come with a fuel farm, and fueling jetty.

In D206s place will be a new structure of Clothing stores, returns and FIC.
This is new info to me, I knew they were going to do a new Naval Depot building for the Aegis stuff but didn't know where it was going to be. It showing up on the Shearwater side is interesting, and the new fueling farm and jetty is also news to me. There is also plans afoot for a High Security Combat Team Training building for Aegis, . Not sure where that is going (aside from it being an east coast facility).

I have a fair idea where the new fuelling jetty is going, since DND just bought waterfront property in Eastern Passage….

;) I didn't wanna be too specific ;)

D206 is actually sinking. There was an idea to pour millions of tons of concrete to try and stabilize. It's also it's already too small for the RCNs needs.
