To be fair, Harper also placed a 1 regulation in, 1 regulation out policy. So the idea was to reduce regulation and the process to get things done. Separating useful regs from non-useful can be difficult. Particularly if peoples jobs are impacted. As for the government population of Ottawa, there is a whole host of them in each department, who primary task is protecting themselves and are quite adept at dodging axes, which them target the important staff who are to busy doing important work to see the axe coming.

That didn't actually result in less regulations though, just bigger ones (with additional business processes added in).

A better metric would be 'how long does it take me to do X'. I can't think of one internal process where it's now faster, and we ask more than ever for RFPs, contractors etc etc. Tried to apply for a grant program at one point for some kind of home upgrade and it took me a few hours to figure out I wasn't eligible because the process was so Byzantine.

The corvettes were pretty simple ships with simple equipment. That approach with how complex modern equipment is to operate and maintain will make you a complete liability. A single CPF in bad shape would easily wipe out a convoy of corvettes from over the horizon, and probably has enough anti ship missiles to take down a WW2 battleship on it's own, and a single modern sub would find it a cakewalk to get in range of a heavy weight torpedo and break it.

The comparison in combat effectiveness isn't even close, but does mean you can't just pull a fleet out of your ass and make do effectively with whatever you have anymore, so trained specialists crews are more critical than ever.

I think @Oldgateboatdriver mentioned once that a CPF could destroy all the ship at the Battle of the River Plate without them ever even knowing the ship was there.

That was me trying to figure out the Quebec renoclimate procedure which was linked to the Canada Greener Homes grant, took me forever to sludge through it with more than a few calls to both programs help desk. I am not the smartest apple but I get by, can't imagine the trouble some folks would have

I guaranty a case of beer.......99% of FN will not mind but really embrace any ships names after traditional tribal names. With some fixes of course. And they don't need to be called the "Tribal" class better the FN class or something. But Karen will be offended for them.

Not a particular roadblock to CSC's carrying those namesakes, I would expect them to transition from Iroquois, Huron and Athabaskan to the proper Indigenous spellings like Haudenosaunee, Wyandot and Dene (?) out of respect.

If we are going with RN name......Buttercup, Pansy, and Candytutf are a good place to start

But then we could go RCN Bittersweet, Fennel, Eyebright, Snowberry! and Asbestos!

I would prefer Canadian names with meaning behind them instead of generic "cool" sounding names, we have a good pedigree of fighting vessels deserving of having their namesakes carried on.

You’re better off with low expectations, so you won’t be disappointed when BOHICA sets in.

Also you get to be pleasantly surprised if common sense prevails.
