Members of the 2915 Capreol Irish Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps joined with the local Royal Canadian Legion branch over the weekend to commemorate the anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge, a key battle in the First World War, by standing vigil.

The battle of Vimy Ridge took place April 9 – 12, 1917 and the Canadian victory is said to be one of the country’s defining moments.  Over 10,000 troops were killed and wounded in the attack.

Pairs of cadets took shifts standing guard at the cenotaph in the Greater Sudbury community of Capreol over Saturday night to Sunday morning.
