Hello everyone, I have composed a career plan that will hopefully work. What are your opinions on this?

I am currently in Grade 10.

- In Grade 12 I join the Army Co-Op Program for my last 4 credits.

- Finish, the Co-Op Program, sign up for University.

- Get my degree in whichever field I choose.

- Become an Officer through the Direct Entry Officer Plan.

- Eventually Leave CF and use university degree as well as CF experience to find a job.

The only thing I am worried is that the Co-Op Program (If I successfully get in) will conflict with my University Application.

Possibly take Grade 13 so I can make sure the Co-Op Program won't interfere with my University application?

If everything goes to plan, can I still be a part of the Reserves through University?

Thanks a lot for any opinions.

Stefan

Well, you've certainly left lots of options open.

Why pay for your education when you can get a free one from RMC?

I don't think that is a plan.  More like the inevitable for everyone in the CF eventually.

You really have no "plan". That's as vague as anything could be.

Why civ university rather than RMC?

What do you want to study?

What occupation(s) interest you and why?

When do you want to leave the CF and why?

What second career do you want and why?

Why do you think that a co-op programme would interfere with a university application?

"Grade 13"?

You can be a reservist while in high school and university.

You need to fill in a lot of detail before you can call this a plan.

Understood. It is more of a layout, then.

I want to go into Computer Science, with the bigger priority CF.

I can't get a Computer Science degree through RMC.

Grade 13, taking an extra year of highschool (some students do it to fix marks, others to get enough credits to graduate)

Because my co-op teacher recommended me to take the course in grade 12, (which is the most important year for uni applications) it could interfere taking up time that could be used to achieve better marks, etc.

I don't plan to spend my entire working life in the military. Possibly 10 years, maybe even longer, but not my entire career.

I hope this clears up anything.

Someone had better tell RMC that, they've been handing them out for years.

Nice to see a youngster with a head on his shoulders and worrying about his future at a young age.

Your plan seems pretty normal to me...however...you stated that you don't plan to stay in the CF forever.  Pretty normal....however one thing to keep in mind is this.  After 10 years in the CF you are going to find it VERY hard to leave the salary you will inevitably be making and the pension you've accumulated.  I'm not saying this to change your mind in anyway.....just something for you to keep in mind.

Either way...keep your plan on track.  Get yourself an education, work as hard as you can, and doors will open for you.
