Not often I get asked something about the CF I do not know.

Do we follow the US tradition of handing the folded flag to the spouse or mother of our fellow soldiers who are killed while on duty, Afghanistan or otherwise, and the funeral or final interment?

Yes.

BTW... internment = prison,  interment = burial
 
The flag on my bro in law's coffin was given to my sister at his funeral; he died from natural causes.
