CDN/US Covid-related political discussion

Bumped with the latest: Team Blue MP cranking up COVID vaccine effects "independent, citizen-led" inquiry coming in September with a lawyer and an "inquiry volunteer."
Nothing on the MP's or Team Blue's web site with any more details, and nothing on MSM as of this post. Chat GPT summary (usual AI caveats) here - some highlights:
The CPAC video features Dean Allison, joined by lawyer Shawn Buckley and volunteer Theresa Buckley, announcing the launch of a private citizen-led inquiry into Canadians who believe they were injured by COVID-19 vaccines.

Main points raised

  • The speakers argued that some Canadians experienced serious adverse effects after receiving COVID-19 vaccines and feel their cases have not received sufficient public attention.
  • They announced an independent inquiry process intended to collect testimony from individuals who report vaccine injuries, family members, medical professionals, researchers, and other witnesses.
  • The organizers said the inquiry's purpose is to document experiences, examine how governments and health authorities responded to reports of adverse events, and make recommendations for the future.
  • Lawyer Shawn Buckley contended that existing government programs and investigations have not adequately addressed the concerns of people who believe they were harmed by vaccination.
  • The speakers emphasized that participation would be voluntary and that the inquiry would seek evidence and witness testimony from multiple perspectives.
  • Questions from reporters focused on the inquiry's mandate, how evidence would be evaluated, whether the effort was connected to the Conservative Party, and how organizers would address concerns about vaccine misinformation.

LifeSiteNews, or simply LifeSite, is a Canadian far-right Catholic advocacy website and publication. The website routinely publishes misleading information and conspiracy theories, and in 2021 was banned from some social media platforms for spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

Why am I not surprised? 🙄

Yeah, not known for being nuanced in a lot of its coverage ;)
Juno's not known for being ... robustly and broadly fair and balanced, either.
It'll be interesting, no matter what happens.

Some would say it's a chance to let people vent without committing Team Blue officially to being linked to anything too stupid that might come out in the midst of people who sincerely feel fucked over & want to be heard.

Some might say it's a chance to let Team Blue fly close to the flame without getting burned - after all, the team franchise doesn't seem to be endorsing this officially, right?

We'll see.

It doesn’t look like this is in any way formally Parlimentary, or a CPC initiative? I think this is just a lone MP lending his letterhead and his modest political platform to something completely independent?

Looks like it to me, too.

Still, boosters/haters'll read into it what they will. That's why I'm interested to see where this goes.
