Hi All,

I'm a healthcare professional civi currently in the process of joining the Health Services PRes as an Officer (got all the references, credentials; passed FORCE test, security check, medical..etc). I've looked through the forum and couldn't find answers to the following and so will appreciate any input from senior members/recruiters.

I'm thinking of switching careers and have always been interested in Geopolitics, History and Sociology. Very interested in reading, analyzing and advising leadership on broad geopolitical strategy. Some people mentioned Reg F Intelligence O (ex. in the Air Force) as they advise senior command on strategy after climbing a few ranks. I'm also interested in Logistics O as option 2. These are the two main ways I'll be able to contribute to the Forces while still doing something meaningful.

So, my questions:

1) If I don't have a uni degree in the social sciences/humanities, should I even bother trying for Int O given the competitive nature of it (though no specific degree specialization is required)?

2) To be a Reg F Int O, is it faster and easier (ie. higher success rate) to:

Join PRes Health Services Officers first, then -> CT to Reg F Int O?
...OR...
Join PRes Health Services -> CT to Reg F Health Services -> VOT to Int O
...OR...
Pause the PRes process and DEO directly into Reg F Int O?

3) Are there different candidate pools for DEO Reg F Int O and VOT Reg F Int O? If so, which one is bigger usually (and does anyone know the 2026/27 quotas)?

4) AI (which is questionable) mentioned that if I start the CT process in the middle of Health Services BMOQ, to get into Reg F Int O, it's considered "DEO". Is this true?

Please help and thanks!

1. The list of ideal degrees is rather lengthy for IntO, it does have an acceptable of "any degree"; so sure you could apply to IntO without having one of the 19 listed ideal degrees - how competative you are is another question entirely and depends on how many other people are in the pool at the same time.

2. If you have a competitive file, option #3 would be the fastest as the other two options are going to require administrative processing at the CT and VOT points of the process. But without knowing where your file sits in a competition board you might never get selected for #3 - so it's all hypothetical

3. DEO pools are anyone not in the CAF wanting to become an IntO, VOT are individuals in the CAF wanting to become a IntO. The difference in production plans by default makes it different pools. Quotas are controlled by DPGR and last I checked are considered Protected B by CFRG (as they're also in CRIMS, which is a Protected B system) and cannot be posted on social media (which is why I stopped putting the charts up several years ago).

4. The BMOQ that CFHS PRes members do is not regular force equivalent, unless they're doing the CHS BMOQ Condensed course, which has limited seating. If you do a PRes BMOQ and try to CT immediately to the Regular Force your BMOQ will likely not be recognized and you will have to redo a Regular Force BMOQ.

** Note although I have knowledge on CFHS training, BMOQ is falls under CDA as the Training Authority; and my comments are based on historical information and not an absolute.

As a previous recruiter for the CAF my advise has always been "join the occupation that you want to do for your career first, as occupational transfers are not guaranteed" - with that said I have 27 years of service (and counting) and I'm on my 3rd occupation.
