Does anyone have any info on, or any good leads to find some info on the
suprise attacks on three English Hudson‘s Bay Company forts on James Bay by
the Chevalier De Troyes in 1686?
Thanks in advance,
Mason

I have the following from my Calendar database I have noted that it is hard
to get complete agreement between sources for specific dates or place names
for the period:
The Rogue‘s Dates - Year Query - 1686
March 20, 1686 - Pierre de Troyes plans an expedition to expel the English
and capture traders in the Hudson Bay area that are working for Radisson.
This expedition has been ordered by Governor Denonville.
June 20, 1686 - Pierre de Troyes captures Fort Monsipi near present-day
Moose Factory, neutralize the English cannons, recapture La Sainte-Anne,
an old sailing ship which the English had seized and charge the fort, swords
in hand, Ontario renames it Fort St-Louis.
June 21, 1686 - Pierre de Troyes renames Charles Fort Fort Rupert Fort
St-Jacques and Fort Albany Fort Ste-Anne before returning to Quebec.
July 25, 1686 - Pierre Le Moyne d‘Iberville captures the Hudson‘s Bay
Company‘s Fort Albany also known as Fort Quichichouane, on the Sainte-Anne
River after a two-week siege.
November 19, 1686 - gland and France sign Neutrality Pact to settle Hudson
Bay dispute and decide on boundary.

I have also checked both "Company of Adventurers" by Peter Newman and
"Century of Conflict" by J.L. Rutledge, neither gives detailed data or even
confirms the dates for these events.

It relates to Radisson Goseillers and hi nephew Couart, tricking the HBC
officials that they were in strength in James Bay.
On 30 March 1686, Chevalier Pierre de Troyes set off from ontreal with 35
canoes, with intent of caturingRadisson, for whom a reward was posted as he
had gone back over to the HBC in 1684.
At dawn on 21 June, they attacked and took the unguarded Moose Factory. On 3
July, they took Charles Fort now ort Rupert, and a company supply vessel
Searchingfor Fort Albany, their mass of canoes was mistaken by the Fort for
a trading party of Indians. The Fort fired its cannon in welcome the rench
landed unopposed. They attacked on 25 July, and were successful in their
attack the following day.
The English retook Fort Albany in 1693, and the French abandoned their other
Forts.
And no, I wasn‘t there, unless, like Patton, it was in a previous
life......Ian, I‘m not sure.
LOL!

Yes. I was a Lance Cpl unpaid and Gow was, IIRC, an acting blank file,
although he is quite capable of speaking for himself.
You should have heard us do the drill movement Fix Bayonets. The command
was "Big Knife on zee little Gun - Put!!" Oh, no, sorry that was the
drill in R22eR. Zut, alors!
