China has made a major diplomatic faux pas by illustrating its Moon Rover exhibit with a stock image of a nuclear mushroom cloud over Europe.

While it's probably just an embarrassing error, it's still an unsettling image given the Chinese government's recent statements concerning plans to build a missile base on the Moon.

On December 3, The Beijing Times reported that Chinese experts are discussing whether the People’s Liberation Army could establish a missile base on the Moon. Per the Taiwan-based, English-language site Want China Times:

An expert from the China National Space Administration's Lunar Exploration Programme Center told the [Beijing Times]that China plans to send its first astronaut to the moon by 2030. By 2050, the moon could become a base from which to send the country's manned spacecraft to explore deep space, the source said.

Ha! Too little too late. Show me something that hasn't been made in China, or doesn't have at least a component of it made in China. A handful of stuff. Sorry folks but it is all over. The world realignment to Asia is well on its way. Democracy is dead fish killed on alter of "we want more for less and make so done else pay for it" and "responsible shareholders". It is terribly ironic that we are selling North America for the equivalent of a "handful of cheap glass beads".

The Res Publica Roma lasted 400 years, and the Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta lasted for almost 600 years, so the track record of Republics is pretty good. Splitting the difference America should be ushering in the Quintecentennial in 2376...

China is really going "Back to the future" if they are considering a missile base on the Moon; Project Horizon was a late 1950's concept by the American Army to do just that, but the advance in technology and sheer economics killed that idea pretty dead. The fact that in the next decade hypersonic cruise missiles launched from a variety of platforms will be reaching their targets anywhere on Earth in a matter of hours (at most) while moon based rockets will arrive in 72 hr is perhaps another thing would be Dr Evil's should consider....

Defeatism doesn't just apply to being at war. We have the ability to stop waking the next sleeping giant. Cutting ties with China benefits the people of our nations. But then again nationalism is pretty much dead in the western world so I do get why there are people like you who just kneel to the " go with the flow"  attitude.

I'm reading all this and then looking around the university engineering research labs I work at. A good 20% are from Iran, 20% from India, and another 45% are from China.  The 15% are North Americans and other nations. As a population we are weak at the very foundations of technological development.

Our entire society needs to be strengthened in engineering/math/chemistry. So if we want real change, it starts there. To suggest blocking off China economically is totally unrealistic. The world economies are so intertwined now you can't do something without having consequences on your end too.

My apologies on the tangent. I am reading "The Truth about Trudeau" and it is burning my whiskers about how our charter and HUman Rights mechanisms may actually undo us. Back to the topic, the Chinese are very poor at interrupting visual media.  It's seems that stealing Internet images is done lazily and copy approval is very easy.
