Wouldn't it make sense something similar to deploy the Type 212-CDs at a choke point? at least while in peace time?
Would convert transit days to the choke point into useful days on patrol and then return to home port by themselves. I first read about this idea on one article in CDR a few years back.

In my view its one of a number of viable strategies, to wait quietly at choke points to/from the Arctic. One should note though, Russian submarines need not transit the Labrador Sea nor Berring Strait choke points to enter the Arctic. So waiting at choke points is not a 100% fully complete Arctic sustained presence/patrol strategy for Type-212CD submarines. I also suspect choke point waiting could also be a plausible mission for unmanned submersibles.
