Choosing a recruitment officer

I have a two part question;

1. Is it possible to 'choose' your recruitment officer when you go to a recruitment center?

2. Is there any advantage to having a member of the force which you wish to join as your recruitment officer.

I'm asking these questions because it seems to me that I'd rather deal with someone from the Air Force because I want to join that arm of the military. I would think that someone in the Air Force will have more knowledge of the Air Force and be more helpful than someone in the Army. I'm sure all the recruitment officers are very professional but I can understand that anyone would be slightly more enthusiastic about their own area of expertise.

Anybody has experience good or bad either way?

We're a "unified" force. If your recruiter doesn't have the answer to the questions you have, s/he will find it from a person who knows. I wouldn't start being picking about being "Blue only". Are you going to not listening to your MBdr or PO2 on Basic because they're not air force? Probably not.

No, of course I'm not going to be picky about being "blue only" and I'd take advice from any superior kind enough to give it. I think I just had an unfortunate experience with someone who was having a bad day. Happens to us all.

I didnt' even realize we had one specific recruiting officer.. every time I went in I saw 1 of 3 people that I dealt with so I really don't even know who would be considered my "recruitment officer".

I'd assumed that once you put in your application you would then be 'assigned' a recruitment officer who would follow through your process and be your contact. Anyone know for sure?

The Recruiter deals with the recruitment process, which is not optimized for different trades. Each trade has its prerequisites for medical category, CFAT results, etc., and every recruiter will be able to provide these requirements to you (or, in the case of the CFAT, tell you what effect your result has on trade choices).  The recruiter is not a coach to help you prepare for your future training and the colour of their uniform does not mean they are intimately knowledgeable about any trade other than their own.

Quite right. I was a Recruiter and an MCC in Toronto. It doesn't matter who you talk to about the recruiting process. We all had a very good working knowledge of the various trades and entry plans the CF has to offer. However as a Sailor if someone wanted specifics about a certain trade in another element then I would engage a Recruiter of either that trade if we had one or one that has worked closely with that particular trade. Talking to Light Blue just because you think it will get you further ahead in the process is a myth. Recruiters only have the info about trades, entry plans and the application process the rest is pretty much up to you with regards to CFAT, Medical and interview.
