I'm currently serving as a Police Officer with  a municipal police service in Alberta and I'm looking for information on becoming a Canadian Forces Military Police man.  Currently I have 3 years experience as a civilian Police Officer and I served 6 years with the British Army as a NCM.  I have a number of questions regarding joining:

1) Is there an option for lateral transfer from a civvy police service to the CFMP?
2) Given my previous service with the British Army would I be required to attend BMQ?
3) Would I be given credit for my time and rank in the British Army (i.e higher starting pay scale or rank)
4) Would my civvy police courses taken be useful in the military police trade?
5) Are the CFMP currently recruiting, if not when next?
6) Given that i'm a fully trained police officer would I be required to attend the police college to complete the final portion of training?
7) Where is the best posting for Military Police (busy, good family life)?

If there is anyone on the boards who have gone through the process of CIVPOL to CFMP i would like to chat, fire me a pm.

Thanks in advance guys!!!!

Let me try and help....
1) No
2) maybe, maybe not.depends how long you've been out of the military and whether or not any of your previous training will be accepted at par
3) Quite possible, although you would start at the Cpl rank anyways if you went the MP route.
4) Absolutely!
5) I believe we are....check with recruiting for a definitve answer
6) Yes, there are aspects to our trade that you dont get trained for on civy side
7)  Any posting is what you make of it so I cant give you an asnwer on that.  Want to be busy?  Halifax, Edmonton. Petawawa, Esquimalt.  Want to be not so busy...Dundurn....

Feel free to private message me if you wish....goodluck!

In addition to the above from MP811, you could post your questions into their forum.  All the best / cheers.

Your time in the British Army might count toward your pension under the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act (you will have to pay for it though) and it definitely will count towards the award of the Canadian Forces Decoration, provided you haven't already received another decoration or medal (e.g. LS&GC) from the British Army for the time in question.
